This little gem should have never made it into our collection. Years back I saw this "male" snake in a picture and it was offered to me for a large amount of money. I said "no way, that snake is wild caught, what if it is not even genetic", I passed on it but I really did want it. Later it was offered to me again after it had been mauled by a rat in Indo, it was much cheaper the second round and I said "if it gets to me alive I'll give it a shot". The snake came in with its spine exposed, some major damage but it was alive and PISSED! This animal is a  testament to what some snakes can handle and still live, retics are remarkable in the fact that they can sustain massive injuries, live through them and heal so well it nearly hides the event.  After a bit of pampering, antibiotics and getting him to eat there was hope, within months the wounds were closed and healing. It basically took a year  to establish this snake in the collection and get it looking half way healthy. It grew very slow and at 6' I decided to try to breed him, without any results for the next few years. I watched the snake and was amazed that it absolutely took no interest in breeding and it was basically useless. Then I had a brainstorm, let me check what sex it was, amazing, "he" was actually a "she"! We then tried breeding it to a male and still no results, Andy focused on the snake and fed it like crazy until it grew a few more feet. At this point we were able to breed it to a male Golden Child and make some weird looking Golden Childs heterozygous for this trait. We now plan to breed back one of her sons to her and see exactly what is going on with this mutation and prove the genetics. We really like this mutation and now have another duplicate female in our collection (loaned) by Stan Chiras. There is no question in our minds that this is genetic and it has much to offer as a combo ingredient!
